2009 Letterbox Clues

"Art in the Library"

 

Letterboxing is simple and easy to do,

Just follow the directions for each clue.

Work in a team if you think it will be better,

Each clue will give you a number or letter.

The answers together are what you must seek,

To that call number is where you should creep.

And as we are sure you know,

When upstairs keep your voices low.

 

Clue #1: Find the Children's hardcover reference copy of Roslyn: Then and Now by Roy W. Moger. 

              On page 90, you will find a map of Cedarmere, the former home of poet William Cullen Bryant. 

              Find the laurel oak on the cream-colored map. 

                    What letter represents the laurel oak on the map? ______

 

Clue #2: Upstairs, near the Reference Desk, look around for a white marble sculpture. 

                    What is the last letter in the sculptor's name? ______

 

Clue #3: Return to the Children's Room and search high and low for a triangular mobile.  When you find

              the mobile, look around to find the name of the sculptor. 

                    How many letters are in his last name? _____

 

Clue #4: Search in the Children's Room for a sculpture of the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. 

                   What time is it on the White Rabbit's watch? (You only need the first number) _____

 

Clue #5: Go back upstairs to the adult section of the library.  Search for a large globe dedicated to the

              memory of Gladys Lasoff. 

                    Find the date the globe was dedicated.  How many letters in the month's name? ______

 

Clue #6: As you return to the Children's Room, find the name of the artist who painted the mural in the

              stairway.  What is the first letter of her name? ______

2008 Letterbox Clues

 

If you want to find our box, here’s what you must do…

Each step will bring you closer to a box that is blue.

A number is the result of each of these clues.

Change each number to a letter, we do not mean to confuse.

The result will be five letters that spell a last name.

Where his J FIC book would reside should be your aim.

 

     Clue #1: Go to the 2009 World Book Encyclopedia.

                   What volume number would you use to research termites?   _____

 

     Clue #2: Go upstairs to the Circulation Desk. Tell them there is a book on hold for you.

                   When they ask your name say: “My name is William Cullen Bryant.”   _____

 

     Clue #3: Go to back to the Children’s Room. Search the biography section for a purple number.

                   The number is visible without moving anything.   _____

 

     Clue #4:  Go to Kazumi’s Garden and count how many Curious Georges you can find.   _____

 

     Clue #5: Look up the Sammy Keyes series in the OPAC.

                   How many letters are in the author’s full name?   _____
